ALEA SBI Launches Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation in Chilton County
On Sunday, Oct. 4, at approximately 2:20 a.m., at the request of the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office, Special Agents assigned to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), launched an investigation concerning an officer-involved shooting involving Deputies with the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office and an Officer with the Clanton Police Department.
The incident occurred when Deputies with the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office and Officers with the Clanton Police Department conducted a vehicle stop on Interstate 65 southbound near the 208 mile marker in Chilton County. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Shaquiah Reese, 34, of Dothan, was wanted for First-Degree Rape and First-Degree Sodomy out of Houston County. Over the course of the traffic stop, Reese brandished a firearm causing Chilton County Deputies and a Clanton Police Officer to discharge their weapons. Reese was injured by gunfire and transported to University of Alabama (UAB) Birmingham Hospital for medical treatment.
No Deputies or Officers were injured over the course of the incident.
Nothing further is available as the investigation remains ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Chilton County District Attorney’s Office.
